Week 5 | Losing My Religion | Spirit of Sonship
SCOTT AVEY   -

TALK IT OUT
  1. Self-righteoussness often shows up from someone who asserts their moral superiority. How does it feel when you encounter someone who is self-righteous?
  2. Read Galatians 4:4-7. The word “redemption” refers to purchasing the freedom of a slave or servant. Imagine what it must feel like to be a slave on the selling market. What emotions would you have? What is your greatest hurt, hope and fear? What would it feel to have someone come and purchase your freedom?
  3. What then would change in both the status and the experience of a servant who had been now adopted into the family of privilege?
  4. Have you ever experienced the presence of the Spirit of God?
  5. Read Galatians 4:6. What’s the significance of Paul calling God’s Spirit the “Spirit of Christ” (as opposed to the “Holy Spirit”).
  6. Paul says the Spirit of Christ calls out Abba! What does it mean to “call out abba”? What’s significant about the Spirit of Christ doing this on our behalf? What does this mean in terms of our access and behavior of approaching God. THE EXTRA MILE
Meditate on Hebrews 4:14-16
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, p Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
