Week 1 | Cancel Culture | Redeem Not Ruin
SCOTT AVEY   -

Dig In:

1. What is one thing that stood out to you from this week’s message?

2. Have you ever felt compelled to boycott or cancel something or someone? What motivated you to do that?

3. Read Galatians 1:13–2:9.

•In Gal 1:13-15, If you were an early Christian, and heard of Saul, the famous persecutor- how would you regard and think of him?

•In Gal 1:18-24;  How many years passed before he met with Cephas (Peter) in Jerusalem? How many total years elapsed from Paul’s conversion? How do you think the early church would have received him? Joy, suspicion? How would you have responded?

•In Gal 2:9 – what was the turning point for the early leaders to trust Paul?

4. Read Colossians 3:9-14

•Paul says we need to lay aside the old self. In other words, don’t operate the way the world does; cancelling people because they are not like you (vs 11).

•According to Colossians 3:12-13, what are the marks of someone who recognizes that God has chosen them and has given them grace?

•What is the motivation for demonstrating these acts of love?

•Think about what Paul may have been thinking about in his past; his violence, his arrogance, his persecutions of the church. How would this have brought meaning to his admonition in how we treat others?

•How do these descriptions (compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another) compare with a Cancel Culture mindset?

5. How does God’s grace and redemption in your life empower you to offer grace when you are at odds with someone else?

6. Consider a distressed relationship or interaction- which of this areas is your greatest struggles;

compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another

6. How can we pray for you?
